Introduction to the micro-optical components

Micro-Optics is one of the three important components of the future Micro-Optical-Electrical-Mechanical System (MEMS, also known as micro-machinery system, (Micro-Electrical-Mechanical System), sometimes also called optical micro-machinery (Optical MEMS). Micro optical elements with the advantages of small size, light weight, flexible design, and easy mass replication have been successfully applied to various fields of modern optics, such as correcting the aberration of the optical system, improving the imaging quality of the optical system, and reducing the weight of the system. It is more widely used in the field of laser optics, which is used to change the laser beam face and realize the beam transformation, such as beam collimation, shaping and optical exchange and optical interconnection. Micro optical components can be simply divided into two categories according to the way of light propagation: diffractive optical components (Diffractive Optical Elements, DOEs) and refractive optical components (Refractive Optical Element, ROEs). One of the most used diffraction micro-optical elements are binary optical elements (Binary Optical Element, BOEs), which approach the continuous optical surface shape with multi-step surface shape and is a more important class of micro-optical elements. The design methods of the corresponding micro-optical elements include diffraction methods and geometric optical methods of refractive propagation, such as Fresnel-wave band method, G-S algorithm, genetic algorithm, light tracing, etc.

Micro-Optics are widely used in Imaging, Medical, Laser, Sensor, and Automation market.
